Resumen

LOPEZ-VALLE, Karina et al. Challenges for date producers in Mexicali: analysis of the problems and strategies in the context of the ITM NODESS model. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2025, vol.8, n.3, e413.  Epub 29-Ene-2026. ISSN 2594-1925.  https://doi.org/10.37636/recit.v8n3e413.

This work analyzes the challenges faced by date producers in the Mexicali Valley and San Luis Río Colorado, with an emphasis on the barriers to commercializing the product. Despite the growth of the crops in the region, producers perceive difficulties such as the lack of adequate distribution channels, ignorance of tax regulations, and little experience in commercial management. The objective of the research is to identify possible causes that limit their organizational and marketing capacities, and to propose solutions under the principles of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE). The research was developed using a qualitative approach, with a descriptive and exploratory design. An intentional sample of date producers was selected, to whom structured surveys in digital format were applied. In addition, a documentary analysis of previous studies, technical reports, and specialized academic literature was carried out to contextualize and enrich the findings. The results show that producers perceive the need to adopt collaborative schemes to improve their market positioning, reduce costs and facilitate access to new marketing channels. Based on these findings, the creation of a producers' cooperative is proposed as a key strategy to face current barriers and strengthen its economic sustainability. This proposal, supported by the Technological Institute of Mexicali (ITM) through the NODESS model, would also contribute to the fulfillment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically the eradication of poverty (SDG 1), decent work (SDG 8), and responsible production (SDG 12).
