This article aims to study the current state of the global audiobook market, with some insights into national contexts. In order to fulfill this purpose, it was necessary to monitor audiobooks’ production and consumption figures, and to compare prices between different book formats, both printed and digital. Additionally, the article traces the history of audible book formats and some of the technologies used throughout different periods. By regarding these two facets, the work concludes with the recognition of new business models to exploit audio productions, considering the importance that technological variables have for the good outcome of audiobooks.
