The Congregation of the Oratory of San Felipe Neri, located in Mexico City, was founded at the expense of Antonio Calderón Benavides, who was a member of a family with a long history in the print trade. This congregation -having acquired the Casa Profesa after the expulsion of the Society of Jesus in 1767- has always been studied in the shadow of (and in comparison with) the Jesuits. The history of the Oratory’s temples in the New Spain capital is well known, however, limited research mentions their library, books or the filipenses who devoted themselves to writing. This article presents the origin of this library, the various donations or transferences that shaped it, and the ulterior destiny of its materials in different institutional precincts.
