Abstract
RAMIREZ LOPEZ, Javier Eduardo. The John Carter Brown Library: From the Bibliographical Exodus to the Mexican Heritage Conservation. Bibliographica [online]. 2020, vol.3, n.2, pp.15-50. Epub Dec 09, 2024. ISSN 2594-178X. https://doi.org/10.22201/iib.2594178xe.2020.2.78.
Based on the analysis of documents of and auction catalogues, this paper shows an overview of the Mexican bibliographic exodus from 1868 to 1896, focused on the sale of Doctor Nicolás León's books to the Brown family. The John Carter Brown Library is one of the most important collections of books from and about the Americas. It is currently the first repository to keep the largest collection of Mexican prints of the 16th century. However, so far there is no story about how this collection was acquired.
