Abstract

ORTEGA, Élika. Center for Digital Culture’s Editorial: From Experimental Practice to the Creation of New Audiences. Bibliographica [online]. 2020, vol.3, n.1, pp.157-184.  Epub Dec 09, 2024. ISSN 2594-178X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iib.2594178xe.2020.1.64.

This article explores the history and impressive production of the project Editorial at the Center for Digital Culture in Mexico. Founded in 2014, Editorial has become a hub of creation of and discussions on the digital cultural production in Mexico and in the Spanish-speaking world more broadly. The characteristics of Editorial -oscillating between its functions as a government agency under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, and its independent publisher profile- have allowed its director Mónica Nepote, and large number of collaborators, to build a non-expert audience for digital culture topics, educate these publics on digital literacies, and become a center for experimentation and innovation in both publishing praxis and the querying of the role of the book and other bibliographic objects in the 21st Century.

Keywords : Digital culture; digital publishing; digital literature; independent publishing; government initiatives.
