Abstract

VEGA Y ORTEGA BAEZ, Rodrigo Antonio. Botanical Policy in Spanish America: Two Natural Science Magazines (1799-1804) and its Reader-Author Network. Bibliographica [online]. 2018, vol.1, n.2, pp.77-110.  Epub Dec 09, 2024. ISSN 2594-178X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iib.bibliographica.2018.2.20.

The theme of this article is the botanical policy implemented by the Bourbons in Spanish America, from the results presented in Anales de Historia Natural and Anales de Ciencias Naturales during 1799-1804. The objective is to understand the scope of scientific policy in the recognition of flora through both journals. The contributions are based on the critical analysis of the publication of botanical monographs, the usefulness of therapeutic species and the contribution of local informants. The article shows scientific press’ contents regarding botanical policy, as well as the reader-author network generated from these writings. The conclusions expose the complexity of such political project by using Botany in the Bourbonic aspirations.
