Abstract
VIVEROS ANAYA, Luz América. Miniatures to Overcome Oldness and Oblivion. Bibliographica [online]. 2018, vol.1, n.1, pp.89-114. Epub Dec 09, 2024. ISSN 2594-178X. https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.22201/iib.bibliographica.2018.1.4.
This paper focuses on one of the strategies common to the writers of memoirs in front of the stance that argues against the truthfulness of the genre, it is to say, the reference to the presence ―or absence― of objects which raise up a memory working occasionally at the same time as both proofs and testimonials of the facts as they are being referred. Based on the writings of Mexican autobiographers Ciro B. Ceballos and Juan de Dios Peza, this paper aims to show the making of these kind of scenes as some sort of miniatures of the main purpose of every autobiographer, which is the recovery of a dead past through evocation. In order to do this we analyze the texts in light of their circumstances of publication based on the theoretical approaches of Philippe Lejeune, Paul de Man and Paul Ricoeur.
