Abstract

SANCHEZ PEREZ, Ana Laura  and  ROMAN SANCHEZ, Yuliana Gabriela. Analyzing death rates in Mexico from a gender perspective. Debate fem. [online]. 2023, vol.66, pp.253-288.  Epub Dec 09, 2024. ISSN 2594-066X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cieg.2594066xe.2023.66.2334.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the differences in the causes of death in Mexico following sociodemographic characteristics from a gender perspective, based on the 2018 Vital Statistics. The results obtained for specific mortality rates and multiple-decrement life tables show that mortality behaves differently by gender, in other words, gender has an impact on differential mortality. Women’s life expectancy is affected by a greater number of causes of death than men’s. Life expectancy increases with educational attainment while the type of occupation makes its behavior differ between working men and working women.

Keywords : Gender perspective; Causes of death; Sociodemographic variables; Multiple-decrement life tables.
