Abstract
PESCHARD MARISCAL, Jacqueline; SALAZAR REBOLLEDO, María Grisel and OLEA GOMEZ, Octavio. What information is necessary for the reporting of educational policy issues? The case of the Benito Juárez García University. Estud. derecho inf. [online]. 2024, n.18, pp.3-36. Epub Aug 12, 2025. ISSN 2594-0082. https://doi.org/10.22201/iij.25940082e.2024.18.18553.
The article aims to analyze the existing public information regarding one of president López Obrador’s flagship public policies, which is the Benito Juárez García Well-Being Universities (UBBJG) program, to determine if it is possible to enhance its accountability. After reviewing the information published by the Coordinating Body of these universities and filed information requests, it is possible to confirm that there is a significant volume of information, but it is neither consistent nor systematic, and in some cases, the information varies depending on the official source consulted. The text suggests that the informational deficiency stems from the dual organizational structure of these universities, as they are within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education (SEP) but also subject to the directives of the president of the Republic. This has allowed public information to primarily focus on continually increasing the number of campuses (from 100 in 2019 to 200 by july 2023) and student coverage, while neglecting concrete results of the educational policy.
