Resumen
HUERTA ARELLANO, Gustavo et al. Mechanical power and survival in patients with mechanical ventilation; systematic review and meta-analysis. Med. crít. (Col. Mex. Med. Crít.) [online]. 2023, vol.37, n.8, pp.707-712. Epub 11-Mar-2025. ISSN 2448-8909. https://doi.org/10.35366/115229.
Introduction:
mechanical power has been used as a predictor of outcomes in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation, however, inconsistencies exist in the literature.
Objective:
to evaluate the association of mechanical power with survival in patients with mechanical ventilation.
Design:
systematic review and meta-analysis.
Sources:
databases: Medline, Scopus, Clinical Trials, KoreaMed, Web of Science.
Study selection:
studies that included adults on mechanical ventilation and that reported mechanical power and mortality.
Data extraction:
of 128 studies found, six cohort studies were selected, and a secondary analysis of randomized controlled trials (n = 3,775) were selected. Low risk of bias was found in all studies. The median mechanical power cut-off value was 17 J/min.
Data synthesis:
it was found that low mechanical power is associated with greater survival in patients with mechanical ventilation (OR 0.45, 95% CI [0.34-0.59]; I2 56%).
Conclusions:
in adult patients on mechanical ventilation, low mechanical power was associated with greater survival.
