Resumen

GARNICA ESCAMILLA, Marco Antonio et al. Analysis of caloric requirement formulas in burned patients. Med. crít. (Col. Mex. Med. Crít.) [online]. 2023, vol.37, n.3, pp.246-250.  Epub 20-Oct-2025. ISSN 2448-8909.  https://doi.org/10.35366/111302.

Burns are characterized by developing a hypercatabolic state, so the energy requirements in this type of pathology is much higher than those of any other patient. The ideal method to calculate the caloric supply is indirect calorimetry, however it is a this tool is not widely distributed, so not all hospitals have this resource, due to this the need to look for alternatives arises.Multiple formulas have been created based on the burned body surface area, the time that has elapsed after the injury, the weight of the patients, etc., in search of finding the one that has the greatest precision and best adapts to the characteristics of this type of patients, however so far none have been shown to be 100% accurate. The objective of this work is to describe which are the most used formulas in the nutritional calculation of the burned patient, to carry out an analysis of each one of them to assess their effectiveness and to propose an alternative for the calculation of the nutritional requirements in severely burned patients.

Palabras llave : burn injury; nutritional requirement; metabolism.
