GARCIA GARCIA, José Luis; LOPEZ DAMIAN, Ariadna Isabel y CHAVELAS MENDOZA, José Albar. From Postmodernity to Transmodernity: New Ways of Thinking about the University-world Relationship. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2024, vol.54, n.1, pp.43-70. Epub 11-Mar-2024. ISSN 2448-878X. https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2024.54.1.612.
Modernity and postmodernity, both occidental narratives, share a background of economic, military, political, cultural, and pedagogical colonization. However, for postmodernity, there is a strong ideological component that gets accentuated after the fall of the Berlin Wall, which could not have been reached without the impact and influence of the university as a capitalist tool that makes invisible the fractures and contradictions created by the economic model, that normalizes the worldview of said model, and that stigmatizes those who dare to visualize alternative worlds. The present essay ponders the contributions of Dussel’s transmodernism (considered a post-capitalist project of society) in the construction of an alternative model of university with a tendency to the reconnection of the human being with him/herself, with other people, and with their environments. In this paper, the concept of transmodernity dialogs permanently with other critical theories and decolonial ideologies to deepen the meaning of a new education for liberation needed for a new era of the world.
