This research analyzes the relationship between child development and academic performance of preschoolers in school district 04 in Acapulco, Mexico. The purpose was to identify whether using a screening instrument (Child Development Assessment, CDA) and its results were related to the level of learning and knowledge that the students showed from the perspective of the educators who attended them. Likewise, it seeks to recognize which factors influence both child development and academic performance, and if the former is related to the latter to understand the importance of child development to promote academic performance. With this aim, its design is a mixed study with qualitative predominance pointing to reconstruct the phenomenon of study from the perspective of one of its actors. In this way, it identified that child development is an implicit factor in academic performance and that it is important to highlight the role that parents, families, and educators play at this educational level in their stimulation.

Keywords : child development; academic performance; child development assessment; preschool education; parents; families.
