Abstract

BUENDIA CHAVARRIA, Raúl Antonio. Temporal Intersections: Nature Time-Human Time. Interpret. Rev. herméneut [online]. 2025, vol.10, n.2, pp.157-174.  Epub Mar 20, 2026. ISSN 2448-864X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/it.10.2.2025/00s329y8x487.

The framework of this article is the widespread dualism of nature-culture, a dichotomy anchored in the Promethean perspective and anthropocentrism, which establishes a logic of domination with dynamics, languages, and narratives in which human history silences nature, generating two temporalities: nature-time and human-time. This separation will be explained through three intertwined themes: 1) By focusing on an indescribable present due to its transience, three concepts that have lastingly marked the notions of time in the Western world are revisited: Chronos, Kairos, and Crisis. 2) The myth of Prometheus-Progress is presented, a concept that in history represents an unstoppable advance toward the betterness and individually is presented as an experience of temporal acceleration in almost all aspects of human beings, an acceleration promoted by the social, political, industrial, and technological revolutions of modernity. 3) The symptoms and pathologies of the current historical period are reviewed: the afflictions and effects on our historical condition, due, on the one hand, to the accumulation of economic resources and, on the other, to their asymmetric distribution, industrialization and accelerated consumerism, the overexploitation of natural resources and physical, biological and chemical pollution, which cause almost irreparable damage to the planet.

Keywords : hermeneutics; nature; history; time; progress.
