In the following text we will address the question of the hermeneutic meaning of the religious symbolism that Eugenio Trías philosophically relates at the beginning of his monumental work: La edad del espíritu. In this philosophical-religious book, published in 1994, Trías considers, mainly, a symbolic cycle with respect to the sacred to unfold the great narrative in which he assembles different and successive interpretations about the universe of symbolic revelations by means of a liminal phenomenological-hermeneutic categorization. This universe manifested itself through the great historical religions, some of which still be in force today. It was a singular experience that account for a beyond that, in Trías’ terms, was called/located as hermetic enclosure, space of the mystical as such. However, his research relies on an ambiguous hermeneutic sense that oscillates between a cognitive bias akin to gnostic hermeticism and the hermeneutics of remythologization.
