The present lines attempt a brief synthesis of the development of the Eranoskreis, from its “prehistory” until its culmination in a symbolic hermeneutics of culture (1933-1988). The first part refers to a visit to Casa Eranos, in 2017. A second moment focuses on Erano’s contributions to the study of myth, symbol, and religion that will lead to the development of a new anthropological spirit, akin to the linguistic twist, and philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer. A final reflection highlights the school of Eranos as the “thought of mediation” (East and West), of the revision of our dogmatic literalism in the name of a “symbolic ecumenism”.
