Abstract

ALCALA MENDIZABAL, Diana. Hermeneutics of Nature: The Living Philosophy or Ecophilosophy of Henryk Skolimowski. Interpret. Rev. herméneut [online]. 2024, vol.9, n.2, pp.151-171.  Epub Oct 24, 2024. ISSN 2448-864X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.irh.2024.2/010s2701wo578.

The survival and prosperity of a nation depend on having a correct and adequate worldview (Weltanschauung). The catastrophes we are experiencing in this century are the product of an erroneous vision of the world, since nature has been interpreted as an “object” that can be manipulated and used without any respect. The interpretation of nature of the first civilizations allowed respect and worship; in modernity this Weltanschauung was transformed, and nature was conceived as something inert, lifeless, put for human beings to use and abuse. An interpretation of nature that precisely criticizes this erroneous and chaotic worldview, generating destruction is the proposal of the Living Philosophy or Ecophilosophy of Henryk Skolimowski, in which he proposes a new Weltanschauung that would have an ontological basis, where he recognizes being as a living entity and worthy of respect and moral consideration. It is a new philosophy that recognizes the highest value of life in nature, avoiding the values established by the technological society of consumption and exploitation, emphasizing the participatory role that the human being has in the field of the interpretation of reality and the transformation of it towards a more responsible and respectful human life.
