Abstract

GALLARDO-OCAMPO, Andrea. Between Philosophy and Literature: Construction of the World Through Words. Interpret. Rev. herméneut [online]. 2024, vol.9, n.2, pp.109-117.  Epub Oct 23, 2024. ISSN 2448-864X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.irh.2024.2/010s2701wo576.

This text aims to outline certain convergences between the ideas of Philosophy and Literature, emphasizing on the necessary opening to a new world that both disciplines lead us to through language. Not everything spoken can be empirically verified, yet everything tangible has the potential to be encapsulated in words and even transcend beyond them. Thus, language, in its tension between the possible and the impossible, can create a renewed interpretive horizon of reality. In an imaginary dialogue, we will explore some of the ideas of Turkish Nobel in Literature (2006), Orhan Pamuk, and the well-known French philosopher and hermeneuticist, Paul Ricoeur. However, instead of confronting them against each other, we will place the philosopher alongside the literary figure. Both propose something fundamental: the text as a bearer of meaning, possessing a center that bestows sense upon it and capable of generating a new world.

Keywords : hermeneutics; literature; interpretation; sense; text.
