Resumen

BARRIOS VAZQUEZ, Josué E.. The ethical-religious system of Jehovah’s Witnesses as a mechanism of vindication of women in Mexican society. The experience of converted Mexican women. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2020, vol.27, n.77, pp.159-182.  Epub 24-Mar-2021. ISSN 2448-8488.

This article examines, from a believer’s perspective, how female Mexican converts to the Jehovah’s Witnesses perceive this religious organization as a countercultural mechanism that aids them to counter some of the cultural adversities in Mexican society. Our analysis is based on the experience of the believer; moreover, our approach seeks to understand some of the gender issues, not only as a concept associated with the study of women, but also to understand the social relationships that exist between men and women within a religious system.
