Resumen
ARAOS BRALIC, Josefina. The production of Chilean popular poetry: the formation of a popular literary sphere in Santiago de Chile, 1890-1900. Let. hist. [online]. 2015, n.12, pp.169-199. ISSN 2448-8372. https://doi.org/10.31836/lh.12.1782.
Through the medium of the Bourdieusian concept of “field” this work endeavours to identify the emergence of a “writing community” in the production of popular poetry commonly known as “Lira Popular” in Santiago de Chile between 1890-1900. This true “campo literario” began autonomously in the context of profound economic, social, political and cultural transformations which dramatically stamped Chile towards the end of the century in general, and the popular sectors in particular. Its production, its areas of diffusion and especially its themes were profound reflection of the contradictions that the country was experiencing at that time, becoming a powerful critical instrument as well as a medium of communication of the tastes, expectations and above all, the literary talent of these “popular poets”.
