Abstract

SALAS, Carlos; QUINTANA, Luis  and  VILLAGRA, Alberto. Micro-units, reserve army of labor, and petty commodity production. El trimestre econ [online]. 2024, vol.91, n.364, pp.877-894.  Epub Nov 24, 2024. ISSN 2448-718X.  https://doi.org/10.20430/ete.v91i364.2618.

This paper discusses a reinterpretation of the role played by micro-units (i.e., the set of own-account workers, unpaid family workers, and wage workers in units of less than five workers) in contemporary capitalism, through the combined use of the notions of the reserve army of labor and the petty commodity production. Statistics from Mexico show that there are flows between this sector, medium and large units, unemployment, and inactivity so that their intersection with the reserve army of labor is verified.

Keywords : Micro-units; informal sector; workflows; petty commodity production; reserve army of labor.
