Abstract

SALAS ALFARO, Renato. Return migrants and non-use of knowledge in the Estado de México. Anál. econ. [online]. 2025, vol.40, n.105, pp.203-215.  Epub Nov 11, 2025. ISSN 2448-6655.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/azc/dcsh/ae/2025v40n105/salas.

This work analyzes the labor knowledge that migrants learn abroad, focuses on those actors who, upon return, voluntarily do not use them. The study is qualitative, based on interviews with migrants. The results show that most of them accumulate savings, small investments, some labor knowledge and other personal resources. But upon return, some of them do not want to make the same as they were living abroad, they do not seek to use the labor knowledge they learned, partly because their communities do not offer conditions and they do not find where to do it, but especially because they bring more valuable resources, they can perform tasks with higher income and status, they can be their own boss or dedicate themselves to what they like.

Keywords : International migration; Return migration; Labour learnings.
