Abstract
DIAZ RODRIGUEZ, Héctor Eduardo and SOSA CASTRO, Magnolia Miriam. The theory of innovation: from creative destruction to sustainable and sustainable innovation. Anál. econ. [online]. 2025, vol.40, n.104, pp.153-174. Epub Sep 09, 2025. ISSN 2448-6655. https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/azc/dcsh/ae/2025v40n104/diaz.
Currently, innovation is recognized as one of the most relevant factors in determining long- term economic growth trajectories. However, the objectives, scopes, determining factors, and the definition of innovation itself have been transforming over time. This study aims to offer a synthetic view of the evolution and trajectory that innovation theory has followed, from its origins to the present. Substantial modifications are identified in at least three dimensions: actors, determining factors, and objectives pursued. A dynamic and eclectic theoretical development is presented, incorporating elements from opposing economic theories, as well as some elements from other disciplines, with its current focus on solving major global challenges.
