Resumen
CARRILLO, Rodrigo. Labor market insertion of returning and deported international migrants in Mexico. Anál. econ. [online]. 2025, vol.40, n.103, pp.115-127. Epub 08-Abr-2025. ISSN 2448-6655. https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/azc/dcsh/ae/2025v40n103/carrillo.
The aim of this paper is to analyze how the labour insertion of international return migrants varies depending on whether their return to Mexico was voluntary or it was consequence of deportation. For this purpose, 2020 census sample data is used, which has detailed geographic coverage, statistical representativeness, and reports the causes of return. Its main limitations are it is not possible to explore labour dynamics nor the experiences of migrants abroad. To differentiate the effect of the characteristics of each population group and the returns they have in the labour market, various Oaxaca-Blinder decompositions are calculated. Results indicate that deported people perceive lower average incomes than those who did not emigrate and those who returned for other reasons. However, for wage employment, they have higher-quality jobs than those who returned voluntarily.
