Abstract

ESPINOZA, José Carlos  and  RAMIREZ DIAZ, Karla Ivonne. Impact of partisan ideology on economic growth at the state level in Mexico. Anál. econ. [online]. 2023, vol.38, n.97, pp.57-80.  Epub Feb 07, 2023. ISSN 2448-6655.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/azc/dcsh/ae/2022v38n97/espinoza.

The article aims to find the relationship between the ideology of the political parties and economic growth in Mexico at the subnational level, considering the Political Business Cycle (PBC) under a partisan approach. A linear regression analysis with panel data has been used, where autoregressive models have been estimated considering the data of each State of Mexico for the period 1990-2020, the left-right spectrum has been employed to locate the position of the political ideology and the gross domestic product per capita to quantify the economic growth. Empirical evidence has been found that proves the existence of the CPE in its opportunist modality and only partial evidence of the CPE in its partisan approach in Mexico, which has shown a partial systematic behavior but not cyclical.

Keywords : political business cycle; political ideology; left-right spectrum; economic growth.
