In the recent period there has been a considerable increase in academic writings on financialization, however, most of these texts do not define the phenomenon of study. In this sense, the objective of this article is to calculate the degree of financialization for the Mexican economy in the period 1993-2016, in order to analyze, through a var model, the relationship that exists between financialization and economic activity. Based on the econometric results, an economic policy recommendation is outlined.
