This text reflects on the phenomenon of information about China, following the publication of Seventy Years of Existence of the People’s Republic of China, 1949-2019 (El Colegio de México, 2022). The book paints a picture of China that contrasts sharply with its image in the media and social networks. In order to improve the analysis of this country, it is critical to recognize the implications of considering China both as news and as a subject of study.
