The manuscript presents a review of the essay Nihilistic Times. Thinking with Max Weber (2023) by political philosopher and feminist Wendy Brown, which is a contemporary revision of the texts “Science as Vocation” and “Politics as Vocation” by German sociologist Max Weber. The review highlights: a) the potential for critical re-readings of intellectual traditions, in particular the one Brown proposes on Weber; b) the possibility of counter-hegemonic readings of the canon, in terms of reading Weber from the interpretative framework of nihilism, according to the author; and, c) the program of critical pedagogy with and against Weber that emerges from the book.
