GRAVE TIRADO, Luis Alfonso. A God of Death in Southern Sinaloa. An. antropol. [online]. 2024, vol.58, n.1, pp.87-101.  Epub 20-Out-2025. ISSN 2448-6221.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iia.24486221e.2024.58.1.85896.

The current indigenous groups of the Sierra del Nayar, that is, the mountainous area between Durango, Nayarit and Sinaloa, identify the west and in particular the marsh area of southern Sinaloa-north of Nayarit with the place of the dead, which they imagine it as a place of rejoicing, of permanent partying and drunkenness. Through the detailed analysis of the few documentary sources of the Colonial Stage and the archaeological data, it is evident that this conception has deep roots and it is proposed that the deity of salt, chili and mezcal was also the lord of the dead and his dwelling was precisely on a hill in the middle of the Escuinapa marshes, in southern Sinaloa.
