This paper deals with the society of the Epiclassic period at El Tajin, Veracruz, and the archaeological investigations that led to the discovery of a tomb belonging to a late ruler of the city. It is the first funerary monument found so far in this site in the plains of the Gulf of Mexico and therefore its extraordinary importance. When we found it empty, we decided to accompany these investigations with a series of studies that sought to determine the existence of organic residues on the floor of the tomb and from them we obtained ancient DNA.
