ORDORIKA SACRISTAN, Teresa  e  TENORIO TOVAR, Natalia. Mass death event, ontological insecurity and emotional orientations: towards a critical reading of the COVID-19 pandemic from the social sciences. Inter disciplina [online]. 2025, vol.13, n.36, pp.225-250.  Epub 06-Out-2025. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2025.36.91380.

Through an extensive literature review, as well as the examination of cardinal events that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, an analysis of the pandemic is presented based on the use of three concepts: massive death event, ontological security/insecurity and emotional orientations, to account for the disorganization and reorganization of certain aspects of the social order, everyday life and subjectivities. We focus on death as an articulating category of the pandemic experience due to its capacity to organize social practices and experiences in the context of the public health crisis. As well as the generation of mechanisms of collective emotional rearticulation resulting from the attempt to restore certainty and predictability to the world.

Palavras-chave : COVID-19; pandemic; death; ontological certainty; emotions.
