The social and cultural context establishes the historical and ideological boundaries of social structures and offers tools to create shared meanings. These shared meanings can significantly influence intergroup biases, which are evident in behavior during intercultural encounters within the same country. In a study conducted in Merida, Yucatan, we used the modified natural semantic networks technique and a semantic structural analysis to identify the words that 260 men and women from the local cultural group assigned to national migratory groups with a greater presence in their region (quintanarroense, campechano, veracruzano, tabasqueño and chilango). The five stimulus words produced a filial network with negative affective loads for tabasqueño, chilango, and quintanarroense, while only positive definers with descriptive meanings were presented for veracruzano and campechano. The findings suggest that locals hold differentiated stereotypes towards each migrant group, which highlights the need for interventions to transform these meanings towards outgroups. Such interventions would impact the interactions of the majority
