Abstract
VILLAREAL GARCIA, Julio Francisco and HUAMAN POMA, Roxana Daniela Aurora. The epistemology of gender violence in Peruvian universities. Derecho glob. Estud. sobre derecho justicia [online]. 2024, vol.10, n.28, pp.373-413. Epub Feb 28, 2025. ISSN 2448-5136. https://doi.org/10.32870/dgedj.v10i28.775.
This research aims to provide an examination of the social and cultural factors that explain the normalization of the gender violence in Peruvian universities. It is worth noting that despite the academic prestige of these institutions, they have not been able to successfully face the challenge of addressing the violence rooted in its society and their own campuses. This work appealed to a descriptive analysis of the normative instruments adopted by Peruvian universities in order to eradicate violence against women. The results obtained reveal that such universities reproduce hegemonic and violent patterns that affect female students, both academically and personally. One of the main manifestations of this finding was the lack of inclusion of the term “gender violence” in many university regulations, which makes it difficult to protect the victims of this scourge. It is concluded that the persistence of gender violence can only be reproduced if university authorities consent to the survival of this scourge, which explains the need to promote the denunciation of the victims of those epistemic injustices endorsed by the different hegemonic groups that develop their practices within such universities.
