The new digital environment has become an indispensable tool for contemporary political communication of both left-wing and right-wing political actors; However, in this context, the relationship between populism and social media has not received considerable attention. This article analyzes the use of Twitter (X) by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) in the context of debates about populism in Latin America. A quantitative and qualitative content analysis of 3927 publications of the president is carried out and it was found that populism manifests itself in three key aspects: peoplecentrism, anti-elitism and popular sovereignty. By focusing on the way in which the president uses his social networks for populist purposes, the study seeks to contribute to the conceptualization and measurement of the phenomenon based on data obtained from social networks.

Palabras llave : Twitter; Mexico; peoplecentrism; antielitism; popular sovereignty.
