Abstract

FARJI NEER, Anahí. Professional Attitudes to Healthcare for the Transgender Population (Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, 2014-2019). Rev. interdiscip. estud. género Col. Méx. [online]. 2022, vol.8, e781.  Epub Aug 15, 2022. ISSN 2395-9185.  https://doi.org/10.24201/reg.v8i1.781.

This work explores the attitudes of healthcare professionals to the transgender population’s healthcare needs, within the context of a global crisis affecting medical authorities. An analysis of a corpus of in-depth interviews with healthcare professionals working in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (Argentina), conducted between 2014 and 2019 establishes a typology of professional attitudes to the healthcare requirements of the transgender population. The conclusions argue that the crisis affecting medical authorities around the world offers a window of opportunity to promote examples of professional reflexivity and awareness of the transgender population’s healthcare needs.
