ROMERO-LOPEZ, Ana Rosa; AYALA-CARRILLO, María del Rosario e ZAPATA-MARTELO, Emma. Model for the design of poultry technologies appropriate for peasant women. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2026, vol.36, n.67, e261685. Epub 04-Maio-2026. ISSN 2395-9169. https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v36i67.1685.
Objective:
To design a theoretical-methodological model for the study of small-scale poultry production systems managed by peasant women, for the design of appropriate technologies that promote rural development.
Methodology:
A search for qualitative and quantitative secondary academic sources was conducted on the Google Scholar platform regarding smallscale poultry farming and peasant agricultural systems, especially in Mexico, across scientific and outreach articles and books. Systematic readings, analysis, critique, and synthesis of their limitations and contributions were conducted from a theoretical gender and human development approach, contextualized to the rural sector.
Results:
The MUCA Model is proposed for the design of appropriate technologies for women engaged in small-scale poultry farming, considering three key spheres: environmental, gender, and technical.
Limitations:
The Model focuses on its applicability in the small-scale poultry area, so its use in other areas requires adjustment and adaptation.
Conclusions:
The proposal recognizes the need to adequately serve women in the rural sector and promotes the integration of new approaches to boost rural development.
