Abstract
CRUZ RODRIGUEZ, Ignacio Javier and RODRIGUEZ FLORES, José Feliciano. Traffic air passenger and economic growth: A federal states analysis in Mexico. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2019, vol.29, n.53, e19651. ISSN 2395-9169. https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v29i53.651.
Objective:
In this paper, we examine the causal relationship between economic growth and air passenger transport in México in the period of 2003-2017.
Methodology:
We applied a cointegration analysis using Pedroni and Johansen test and vector error, correction models as well as causality Granger test.
Result:
Suggests that a higher volume of traffic influences the direction of causality. We discuss the policy implications.
Limitations:
The main limitation is that this analysis contains just two variables.
Conclusions:
exist a long run unidirectional Granger causality, which runs from air passenger to economic growth.
Keywords : regional development; air traffic passengers; economic growth; causality; federal entities, Granger analysis.
