Abstract

SOLOVIEVA, Yulia; QUINTANAR, Luis  and  SIDNEVA, Anastasia. Teaching of mathematics at preschool level in Mexico and Brazil, any changes?. Cienc. ergo-sum [online]. 2024, vol.31, e226.  Epub Feb 04, 2025. ISSN 2395-8782.  https://doi.org/10.30878/ces.v31n0a11.

The content of the most recent official preschool education programs in Mexico and Brazil, based on proposals for introduction to mathematics is analyzed. The analysis reveals the absence of a decisive position on mathematics and the lack of a proper methodology for the preschool educational level, from the point of view of psychology and pedagogy. The conclusions suggest that the reorientation of objectives and methods is required for the preschool educational level. The teaching of mathematics is a subject of concern in pedagogy and psychology. In Mexico and Brazil, two of the most representative countries in Latin America, strong difficulties in the acquisition of mathematics are identified. The results of the PISA international assessment have shown unsatisfactory results.
