CHARLES LEIJA, Humberto. Sociodemographic effects on municipal poverty in Mexico. A study of spatial econometrics. Rev. econ. [online]. 2019, vol.36, n.92, pp.129-163. Epub 06-Set-2019. ISSN 2395-8715.
The study identifies the effects of sociodemographic factors on the extreme poverty rate in Mexico. 2010 information and spatial data analysis techniques are used. It is found that some elements of public policy such as increasing the literacy rate significantly reduce extreme municipal poverty. Another relevant element is that a more equitable distribution of labor rates between men and women reduces extreme poverty. One of the main contributions of the research is to identify that, by reducing extreme poverty in 10% in some municipalities, the extreme poverty of its neighbors can be reduced by up to 5.5% due to contagion effects.
