Abstract
ARRIAGA NAVARRETE, Rosalinda and GONZALEZ PEREZ, Claudia Rocío. The tourism sector and its productive linkages: an input-output analysis and endogenous consumption. Rev. econ. [online]. 2019, vol.36, n.92, pp.94-128. Epub Sep 06, 2019. ISSN 2395-8715.
This article analyzes the importance of tourism activity in Mexico by identifying the interindustry relationships that this sector produces in the productive structure of the country. These relationships are built based on the input-output matrix, with endogenous consumption and the satellite account of tourism, to conform, with the economic sectors that participate transversally in tourism, an "artificial" sector: the tourism sector. For the sectoral compatibility of the tourism satellite account and the input-output matrix, estimates are made for the year 2008; with the objective of quantifying the direct, indirect and induced effects produced by tourist spending on production, employment and remunerations. The results show a 68% increase in employment based on a coefficient of 2.51 jobs created directly for each million pesos of final demand in the tourism sector, which means 4.22 total jobs.
Keywords : tourism; input-output; employment; remunerations.
