Abstract

GARCIA LUPIOLA, Asier. Rock as an instrument of protest in the contemporary international economic context. Iztapalapa. Rev. cienc. soc. humanid. [online]. 2023, vol.44, n.95, pp.169-200.  Epub Sep 11, 2023. ISSN 2007-9176.  https://doi.org/10.28928/ri/952023/aot3/garcialupiolaa.

This work shows the evolution of the rock in the international context of the last seventy years. The objective is to study its role as a tool of protest and expression of social discontent that spread throughout the planet thanks to a multitude of artists and groups who have embodied the desire for freedom of the youth in each generation. The great elements that make up the international economic order and the fundamental milestones of rock since its birth are described in parallel. In this way, it will be shown that this social phenomenon that goes beyond the musical genre has served as a speaker of complaint against the great economic, social, and political events, especially for the youth.

Keywords : popular music; youth; world economy; globalization; insurrection.
