This article contains a summarized exposition about the path of the novel, not through the novels neither its novelists, but focused on its theories, dominant trends and currents which had look after of this literary genre. The main porpoise is to take position respect hers origins and social function in modern age, as well as bold hers influence into the culture, in the shape of thinking schemes and social behavior orientation. For that it has bolded the features which each one of dominant theoretical currents has define them; or with those what each age has enriched them. We begin with a synopsis of its precursor shapes and its owners appeared conditions, afterward, we put the emphasis on the worth which has consolidated them as a determinant factor for the transition between the traditional ways of life and the modern culture.
