Abstract
CAMPOS ALFONSO, Julia Matilde and GARCIA FERNANDEZ, Francisco. “Monetary Ordering” Policy in Cuba 2021-2023 and its effects. Entrediversidades rev. cienc. soc. humanid. [online]. 2024, vol.21, e202412. Epub June 13, 2025. ISSN 2007-7610. https://doi.org/10.31644/ed.iei.v21.2024.a09.
The aim of this study is to analyze the theoretical-methodological contradictions, practical effectiveness, and consequences of the economic policy of Monetary Reordering, officially termed the “Ordenamiento Task” (OT). Using a transdisciplinary legal-economic approach, the study examines inconsistencies in the implementation of the OT concerning the new structure of nominal incomes for active and retired employees in the state sector, its relation to declining real wages due to inflation, and other effects stemming from the OT’s implementation. A Basic Food Basket (BFB) is constructed at current prices for the capital, aligning with the caloric requirements of the reference consumer population, as well as individualized basic baskets by gender and age, utilizing equivalence units and supported by inferential statistical techniques. Finally, the presence of the socioeconomic phenomenon of Labor Poverty in Cuba is assessed through Type Household analysis and individual evaluations within the state sector.
