The implementation of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in education raises significant ethical and pedagogical challenges. This study aimed to analyze university students’ perceptions of these tools in their learning process, to identify perceived benefits, and to assess implementation risks. A descriptive quantitative study was conducted with a sample of students from two faculties at Universidad Veracruzana. Results indicate that 88% understand basic concepts, 90% use GAI in their academic activities, and 58% perceive that instructors do not employ it effectively. We conclude that, while students view GAI as a useful tool, they express concerns about its impact on the development of critical thinking and on academic integrity.
