CALDERA-MONTES, Juan Francisco et al. Academic Stress and Self-Concept in Mexican University Students. Psicumex [online]. 2024, vol.14, e538. Epub 09-Sep-2024. ISSN 2007-5936. https://doi.org/10.36793/psicumex.v14i1.538.
The objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between academic stress and self-concept, to compare both variables according to gender, and to identify the predictive capacity of self-concept factors in the levels of academic stress in university students. The results confirmed a negative association between academic stress and self-concept and significant differences between men and women. Additionally, a multiple linear regression analysis differentiated by sex was performed. In the case of women, the model was constituted by the emotional, academic-work, social, family and physical factors of self-concept; in the case of men, only the emotional and academic-work dimensions were integrated. It is concluded that the self-concept contributes to the prediction of the behavior of academic stress in higher education students. For these reasons, it is convenient to promote activities for students in university institutions that improve their perception of themselves.
