ESCALANTE FERRER, Ana Esther. Attending to gender violence in Mexico City: social politics in process. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2019, n.18, pp.247-268. ISSN 2007-4964.
The article presents the results of research that evaluated the Program for Prevention and Attention to Gender Violence that has been operating for 12 years in what is now Mexico City (the former Federal District). The methodology applied, thanks to the generous support of the Council for the Evaluation of Social Development, included reviewing the program’s documents and operating rules and regulations, which are available as part of Mexico City’s social policy. Other data were collected in medical clinics and hospitals that function as agencies of the Ministry of Health through various action initiatives and the personnel responsible for Specialized Care Services for Gender Violence and those who provide medical attention in clinics associated with the program. Information was analyzed using logical framework methodology. The ultimate goal of the paper is to examine the inconsistencies and weak points of the government’s program to combat violence against women, a problem still in the process of gaining greater visibility.
