GARAY NUNCIRA, Andres Camilo. Self-determination in the digital economy: beyond entrepreneurship. PAAKAT: rev. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2024, vol.14, n.27, e869. Epub 22-Out-2024. ISSN 2007-3607. https://doi.org/10.32870/pk.a14n27.869.
Humanity faces a new reality defined by technological advances and the more relevant role of digital spaces in socioeconomic interactions. In this context, reflections on digital self-determination constitute an issue of great relevance to understanding and vindicating the position of human beings within a hyper-technological and hyper-capitalist environment. With the aim to contribute to this issue, this text explores self-determination in the digital economy and proposes understanding it as a capability that has an essential core whose enjoyment must be guaranteed to all actors in the digital economy, based on the materialization of a series of subjective and objective factors. It is expected to contribute, from a critical perspective located in Latin America, to a multilateral construction of a notion of digital self-determination that understands human beings in individual and community terms, and that allows overcoming models of self-determination established only from neoliberal logic. For this reason, a critique is also made of the hegemonic diffusion of entrepreneurship as the only desirable model of action within the digital economy, as it limits the capability for self-determination, by restricting the possibility of conceiving other modes of participation in this digital scenario. Digital self-determination implies opening the range of possibilities for individuals and communities.
