GATICA NEIRA, Francisco Eduardo e NAVARRETE ARANEDA, Carlos. Factors that determine the intention to use electronic voting between 18 to 39 years of age. PAAKAT: rev. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2024, vol.14, n.27, e859. Epub 22-Out-2024. ISSN 2007-3607. https://doi.org/10.32870/pk.a14n27.859.
The voting system has generated constant debate in each election process in the country. Citizens between 18 and 39 years old, in the context of voluntary voting, have historically had low participation. Through the UTAUT technological adoption model, using structural equations by the method of partial least squares (SEM-PLS), based on a survey base of 288 people from Concepción and Talcahuano (Bío-Bío Region, Chile), the determinants that can explain the intention to use electronic voting among 18 to 39 years old were identified. The results show that expectations of performance, effort, social influence, technological complexity and ease of participation are essential for the adoption of electronic voting in this age segment. It is suggested to extend electronic voting to those people who for health reasons cannot go to vote or those who are far from the voting place, for example, rural population with access to the internet or those who are abroad. Those public policies that seek to implement electronic voting must invest significantly in technological dissemination, with different opinion leaders playing a key role.
