Jalisco is one of the states in Mexico that has received more attention by mammalogists and these studies have covered varied topics, one of them are the inventories that have increased our knowledge about states mammal diversity and conservation. After of mammal checklist publications, there have been many taxonomic changes that modify the known inventories of Jalisco. We examined these taxonomic changes and their effect in the richness and composition of species. We recorded 56 taxonomic changes that do not modify notably the richness (1.2 to 3.5%); however, the composition is largely affected (21.7 to 31.7%). The taxonomic changes can modify the inventories in a qualitative and/or quantitative way, and affecting or changing the strategies of use, management and conservation.
