Organizations such as UNESCO and OECD emphasize that in order to be successful in the labor market holistic education is required including academic knowledge and socio-emotional skills. The development of emotional intelligence and of emotional competencies in higher education help to complete the education giving rise to fulfilled human beings and effective employees, however, it is worth mentioning that each of these concepts has a different view of the skills related to emotions, in spite of the fact that some articles use the terms as synonyms giving rise to theoretical and methodological confusions. The documentary research of this essay is targeted at showing the national and international framework of both constructs, indicate differences via the theoretical review of its man models and most representative authors.
